Young people of all ages should get the opportunity to be apart of scouting, learning the core skills and values that underpin why we do what we do and the developmental advantages of being with friends, in nature.
I chose to be a squirrel and cub leader, to support young people to step out of their comfort zone, build confidence and relish the opportunity to learn life skills. I now get to witness how these skills move with them through their scouting journey and it’s an honour to be apart of it.

I fell into Scouting in 2024 and haven't looked back. I feel like it was supposed to find me as I feel right at home and have worked alongside some incredible people. I never even considered being a teacher but have found an abundance of joy working with our young people to encourage and support them to do their best with every challenge thrown their way. I wear my uniform with pride, Proudly helping our future generations to develop skills, friendships, strength and pride in themselves to grow into amazing adults.

I am now back to the group after a three year break which was due to the amount of work I needed to do and starting a new career.
I have been in scouting for 27 years most of which was at Ickleford.I had the pleasure of being the group scout leader, as well as cub and scout leader.
Being a leader brings you so much joy and happiness seeing the youngsters starting as a shy and reserved beaver scout, to a capable mature scout with so many skills and experiences, and knowing I was a part of that gives me such pride. It's so nice when they are out with their own children and they still stop to say hello.

“I wanted to serve my local community and felt my previous experience of working with children would help me to do this. I also like the opportunity to empower young people with key skills that they may not learn elsewhere.”

Becoming a Scout leader has been a way for me to give back to the local community and support young people in developing confidence, resilience and important life skills. I want to help create opportunities for children and teenagers to try new activities, build friendships and experience things they may not otherwise have access to. It is incredibly rewarding to play a small part in helping young people grow, challenge themselves and reach their potential.
